After many years of experience singing and performing as a singer, as well as participating in organizational activities within the only Serbian a cappella choir “Viva Vox”, on the one hand, and personal experiences and working with children from the perspective of both teachers and parents, on the other hand, the idea of founding a children’s choir “JukeVox” was born, as a combination of these two aspects. The interest that the “Viva Vox” choir aroused among the audience in Serbia and abroad prompted us to think about how to enable younger generations to participate in similar performances, achieve similar successes and how to use their potential, spirit and creativity in order to create something unique, and at the same time how to positively influence the diversity of choral music in Serbia, especially the development of a cappella music.
During the state of isolation caused by the pandemic of corona virus, where it was not desirable to meet other peaople and especially not to sing together in the same room, it became clear how much the previous choir rehearsals, performances and gatherings of the members represented at the same time a “vent” from all the stress accumulated during the day and the working week, and how positively it affected the mental health of the singers.
The choir was officially founded on September 13, 2023, in memory of Sofija Negic, one of the students of the “Vladislav Ribnikar” Elementary School who tragically died on May 3, 2023. Her life filled with music and the tragedy that happened to her and her friends from school is just a confirmation of how much it is necessary to connect and bring the young people together through music, to show them that both their similarities and their differences together make one wonderful puzzle that fits perfectly into a unique picture.
